Shuibei's gold and jewellery district has grown for more than 30 years and now covers about 1.1 million m2 across the Shuibei-Buxin area, described as China's largest and most complete jewellery industry cluster. It holds about 7,000 jewellery companies, more than 20 specialist jewellery markets and roughly 63,000 workers, with annual revenue above RMB 12 billion (Shenzhen Commercial Daily via Shenzhen News Network, 30 December 2024). Industry estimates put Shuibei at about 50% of China's gold and jewellery wholesale market. The Luohu District Government's action plan (Luofuban [2022] No. 7) sets out to brand 'Shuibei, Luohu' and build an internationally known 'World Treasure Capital' (Luohu District Government, published 4 January 2023).
