Luohu District, Shenzhen
Shuibei Jewellery Trading District
Shuibei is a jewellery district, not one market: the Shuibei-Buxin area of Luohu District covers roughly 1.1 million m2, converted from a 1980s-90s industrial zone, with more than 20 specialised jewellery markets within walking distance. Gold, K-gold, diamonds, jadeite, pearls and findings each concentrate in their own halls. The Shuibei International Jewellery Trading Centre, opened in 2004, was China's first large jewellery trading and exhibition platform and is the natural anchor for a first visit.
What buyers should know
With roughly half of China's gold-jewellery wholesale volume passing through here, many domestic retailers restock from Shuibei, so buying at source avoids a layer of markup.
Gold halls quote by weight plus a processing fee, so pricing is comparatively transparent against the daily gold price.
The 20+ markets are separate buildings in one walkable area, gold in one hall, diamonds and finished pieces in others, so budget a full day, or two if covering diamonds and jadeite as well.
The district grew out of an old industrial zone, so building quality varies between the 2004 flagship trading centre and older blocks; confirm the specific market building before setting a meeting.
